Female Firearms Academy

The Female Firearms Academy was born out of the desire of the Board of Directors to provide basic gun safety and training to women. Initially started through the NRA’s Women on Target program, additional flexibility, and MORE classes, were requested than could be provided through the NRA. Enter the Female Firearms Academy, named by our very own Tim Moore, who previously provided the training through the NRA. The goal, and the reward, is watching no-to-low experience female shooters walk away with the confidence and desiring to continue shooting and training! Classes are scheduled based on the need of female shooters and the availability of volunteers to staff the event.

The class is very basic and designed for new shooters, SAFETY is number one. We go over Col. Jeff Cooper’s 4 rules of gun safety, types of gun function, (revolver, single action, SA/DA, 1911’s, striker fire) Stance, grip, sight picture, sight alignment. Just to name a few things. We then go out on the range for live fire instruction. If a lady does not have a firearm, no problem, we will have several for her to use. No ammo, we have that. No eye or ear protection, we have that also. All this for a whopping $15.00!

We hope that each participant will walk away with the confidence to further their shooting experience and not feel like the class is a pass or fail scenario but a learning experience. “Safe” mistakes are OK! It gives us a teachable moment where we can show them and then watch as they smile and say “wow” I can do that. All of this is volunteer, we want to be there to mentor them and to let them know Bridgeville is there to assist them in a safe and fun environment. When they are in the classroom they can look around and see there are lots of other ladies of all ages with the same interest as them and we hope that comfort level helps.
